What can industrial freewheels do ?
- Transmission of torque.
- Idling (overrunning).
- The freewheels may be employed as:
- Overrunning clutch, the freewheel disengages automatically when the driven member rotates faster than the driving member.
- Indexing clutch, the freewheel allows the conversion of reciprocating motion into rotational movement.
- Backstop, the freewheel allows rotation in one direction only, it overruns continuously during operation, the freewheel prevents reverse rotation if the drive is disconnected.
- Grip-roller freewheels for low to medium overrunning speeds and for indexing clutches.
- Sprag freewheels for high overrunning speeds and for backstops.
Installed in a drive system as an overrrunning clutch, they automatically disengage a faster-running driven part from a slowerdriving part. APPLICATIONS - Ventilators
- Standby drives shredders
- Butcher machines
- Rotary furnaces
- Dry cleanning installations
Used as backstops, they automatically prevent unintentionalrotation opposite to the desired direction of drive, without having toapply external energy. APPLICATIONS - Gear drives
- Motors
- Pumps
- Elevators
- Conveyors, cranes
Applied as indexing clutches, they transform reciprocalmotion into intermittent rotation. APPLICATIONS - Printing machines
- Packing machines
- Sewing machines
- Feeding mechanisns
Used as single revolution clutches, with exactnessand indexing accuracy, they enable coupling and disengagement of continuouslyrunning drives and periodically operated installations. APPLICATIONS - Printing machines
- Packing machines
- Sewing machines
- Feeding mechanisns
Locking elements
Locking Rollers
Individual spring compensates for machining tolerances. Therefore eachroller is loaded with the same torque. All rollers are instantly lockedwhen coupled.
Sprags
Compact sprag element easily integrated into a mechanismwhen used with hardened shaft and housing. Hight shaft overrunning speedspossible with correct lubrication. Sprags centrifugally disengage from shaft during overrunning to becomenon-contact and non-wearing. Accepts high eccentricity and any type oflubricant. High shaft speeds possible with reduced lubrication.
